A Voice From The Past
RTMC’s first Pastor — Rev. James Shaw
1875–1877 • Pastor • Richmond Town Methodist Church
We reproduce two pages from RTMC’s Centenary issue published in 1975. This is a report from RTMC’s first Pastor, Rev. James Shaw, at the First Quarterly Conference held on July 3, 1875, and then adjourned to December 31, 1875.
His brief report at the 2nd Quarterly Conference held the following year, 1876, states how buoyant and encouraged he felt, pastoring a growing Church.
It is not mere history; it is meditation. We offer it as a reminder that those who came before us were not so different from ourselves: they, too, were uncertain, hopeful, and sustained by a faith larger than their circumstances.
